Announced today, the United States Government just put sanctions on Chinese and Russian companies doing business with North Korea.
Companies involved in the sanctions are involved in North Korea’s nuclear missile building weapons program.
The fact that China has not stepped up and taken more direct action has frustrated the Trump administration.
“Treasury will continue to increase pressure on North Korea by targeting those who support the advancement of nuclear and ballistic missile programs, and isolating them from the American financial system,” said Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin.
With North Korea’s history of combativeness, the repercussions of these sanctions are certain to get a response. Even the Chinese Government may respond.
Considering that China is one of the largest foreign holders of U.S. Debt, the outcome of North Korea’s long-term plan creates substantial uncertainty for all involved.
